Due to online news becoming read more than the printed version, the Guardian newspaper has decided to put its news out online before the print edition!
The Guardian has become the first national UK newspaper to put its news online before it releases the news on the printed paper version. The news giant will be launching its news stories online hours before it sends the printed version out to be read. The Guardian has commented that this will give their editors more control and freedom over their stories, but it is clear that the move is due to the statistics showing that there is more and money be invested in advertising online than there is in other forms.
It is also changing supply due to a change in demand: more and more readers want to read their news online. This big mouth media author believes that readers are sick of wading through piles of text to find what they want to read. News should be quick to find and not padded out to bulk up a newspaper that'll be sold in the high street. Subsequent to our
report last week it can be seen that online users want to view their news as an interactive press release, that can be searched for easily, rather than a printed document or long piece of text that isn't straight to the point.
The Guardian hasn't yet ditched the paper version with some exclusive stories to be held back to protect the value of its more tangible service, but this is the beginning of a revolution for newspapers.
A revolution that could ultimately see the move away from paper to focus more on the news!
