Who would have thought that the
Google Adwords campaign system would cause so much furore. With the announcement that Ask Jeeves are to drop
PPC listings in favour of Adwords listings, and then their chief executive reportedly stating that is was purely for Google offering a better financial package that equates to a move worth over 100 million dollars over three years.
With reports that Ask are losing value in their share prices I guess they had to do something to start making a profit margin. So money does talk after all.
Does this mean that Ask are still, 'a pure search engine?' I don't think so. The screws are getting tightened round the PPC market and
Overture seems to be the company getting picked on in a very deliberate move. But where will this leave other second tier PPC providers who could never match up to Overture in the first place? Will this decision leave Google with the majority of search power ownership? Could we see the future shaded in Google colours? Watch this space.
