Mobile media company 3 has announced it is launching the Yahoo! messenger service on its phones from this week.All of 3's users will be able to access the service on their handsets for free, with pay monthly customers set to receive it on an indefinite basis and pay as you go users having access until the end of the year.
Teaming up with Google to provide the messaging service will enable 3's customers to enjoy unlimited instant messaging and chat all over the world in the same way as they would on their PCs.
The two companies already work together, with Yahoo! facilities such as Yahoo! Go 2.0 already being provided on 3 phones.
Last week the phone company announced it is now offering Google Maps on the Planet 3 mobile portal via a download. New phones will have the application pre-installed.
Under the agreement with the search engine, Google search was also integrated into the mobiles.
Marketing director of 3UK John Penberthy-Smith said about the new application: "We are delighted to be able to give our customers a richer mobile internet experience through adding these innovative Google products to our service."
"Our objective is to make sure that our customers have an experience which gets closer and closer to the one you would expect when using your home PC, but on your mobile device, wherever you are."
It is expected that Google will launch its own mobile handset, called the GPhone, in the near future.
