www.msn.co.uk. These sites offer a range of services, from news, sports and weather, to email services, chat-rooms and most importantly search. In the case of most of these portals, the searchable database has been bought through a partnership with one or more dedicated
search engines or
directories, such as FAST,
Google or
Looksmart. This makes optimisation for these partner sites all the more important. In fact, for
Looksmart UK, and FAST, the vast majority of the
traffic that they source to websites is through their search results being displayed on major portals.
For this reason, portals must be considered as target
search properties, along with traditional
directories and
search engines.
