Pregnancy status for pages revealed by Facebook

Pregnancy status for pages revealed by Facebook Users of Facebook can now inform everyone that you are expecting the pitter-patter of tiny feet with Facebook's new Pregnancy update. The feature allows users to add a due date for the expected baby and even give its name.

A spokesman for Facebook told the Telegraph: "We develop new features, in part, by seeing how people use the service.

"For years, people have been using Facebook to share the joyous news of expecting a child and, a few months ago, we began testing a feature designed to make that process easier."

The social network said this is just one of the new features it's trying out. Since the beginning of 2011, options have been added for a user to declare they were "in a domestic partnership" or '"in a civil union" as well as the standard "married" and "engaged".

Despite being seen as fun features to add to your profile, privacy advocates have warned against putting up every last detail about yourself on the site.

"People need to take a deep breath and live life with a certain amount of privacy and dignity. What if things don't go right?" Gwen O'Keeffe, author of the book Cybersafe, told the Telegraph.

"You don't want to answer questions from all your Facebook friends."

This new addition to Facebook profiles is just one of several new features being currently rolled out. The social networking giant has already announced that the News Feed section is to be changed, with rumours swirling that a 'Dislike' function is soon to be incorporated.
