Farmer, Panda,
authorship markup and the
web-wide rollout of Google +1 are all proof that Mountain View's not shy of shaking up search.
And yesterday, in a blow to Bing and
Yahoo!, Google yesterday unveiled more improvements to its web and mobile offerings - as well as three new features - at an exclusive search event in San Francisco.
According to
CNet.com, Google let journalists "under the hood" of the world's most popular
search engine while revealing a triple-charged change to search that will see Google search become quicker, more mobile-focused and increasingly pre-emptive.
Google announced plans to return search results in lightning-quick time by adding a plus icon to Instant Search that, when clicked, automatically modifies search queries to include related search suggestions - pre-empting further searches.
The search seraph also unveiled plans to launch Instant Pages for Chrome - a new service that will cut-out five seconds of load time to see destination pages load near instantly, bringing searchers what they're looking for even faster.
But mobile, not the need for speed, seems to be behind Mountain View's latest advances.
At the exclusive event, Google told tech pundits that web search volumes remain high during the working week but dip at weekends, while mobile search volumes are consistently high and always increasing - making mobile an agenda-topper for Mountain View.
And Google said it plans to capitalise on the growth of mobile search by launching a new large-display search interface especially for tablets and by adding detailed icons to its mobile search page to speedily map and detail local businesses and searched-for attractions.
Google also outlined plans to bring "mobile innovations" as well as two new services - Voice Search and Search By Image - to web search.
The two new features are currently being rolled-out to Chrome users.
With voice search, users will be able to speak a query to Chrome via a microphone on their PC, laptop, tablet or mobile device.
Meanwhile, search by image will bring searchers SERPs related to a particular image that they've dragged and dropped into Chrome's search box.
