Tech Ticker premiered by Yahoo!

Tech Ticker premiered by Yahoo! Despite the current turmoil surrounding its rejection of Microsoft's takeover bid, search engine provider Yahoo! has launched a new programme for technology investors dubbed Tech Ticker.

The service, which was premiered yesterday (February 11th), offers news on technology stocks, including streamed video and blog posts

Commenting on the release, Scott Moore, senior vice president of Yahoo!'s media initiatives, stated: "Not only are we launching this, we're doing it when we're the biggest story. That demonstrates commitment," the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Hosts of the show include Business Week columnist Sarah Lacy and CNBC analyst Paul Kedrosky, as well as former Wall Street technology analyst Henry Blodget and Andy Kessler, the co-founder of a technology hedge fund.

Praising Yahoo!'s new venture, Yankee Group analyst Daniel Taylor said: "People don't live by the linear television schedule.

"They may not have time to wait for the topic they're interested in to show up, but they can eat lunch at their desk and watch internet video clips when they're ready."

He added that Tech Ticker is an example of what Yahoo! should do more of, stating that it caters to an older, wealthier audience that is attractive to advertisers.

Yahoo! attempted a project similar to Tech Ticker eight years ago when it launched a finance video show called FinanceVision. The programme was shut down two years after its release, however, due to poor results.
