Video sharing site Dailymotion has struck a deal with 'online discovery experience' The Filter to increase its levels of video consumption, user engagement and dwell time.
TechCrunch reports that this partnership will see The Filter deliver personalised recommendation services to all 66 million monthly users of Dailymotion, according to comScore statistics.
Dailymotion is one of the world's most popular video sharing sites, available in 19 countries and 12 languages. The site's search function already incorporates personalised recommendations based on other things users have searched for, and the partnership with The Filter will see this custom user experience taken even further.
The website states: "The Filter is a personalized discovery engine for digital entertainment content. Its aim is to make sense of the overwhelming amount of digital content available on the web by filtering out the stuff that an individual probably wouldn't be interested in and filtering in the stuff they would be interested in - all based on their tastes and moods."
By delivering recommendations tailored to each user's preferences - based on an evidence model incorporating purchase, consumption and browsing data - The Filter currently gives music and video recommendations to 85 million users each month. However, the service's primary business model is a white label personalisation engine for mass audiences, and with major deals such as this, The Filter is hoping to prove that its technology can effectively scale into billions of requests.
Other clients already incorporating the discovery experience of The Filter into their services include Sony Music Entertainment, thePlatform, We7 and Nokia. A nine-month trial saw The Filter's technology capture more than five billion video views and deliver over a billion recommendations to users of Dailymotion, indicating that full incorporation of the service could be hugely beneficial in delivering an improved user experience to online video viewers.
