The Ten Commandments Of SEO

The Ten Commandments Of SEO The Book of HyperText
(Chapter 5: Verse 5-23)

(5) Verily Reg, whereupon asked by the MD, did venture forth to the Mount of Webdesign and began to design for forty days and forty nights.

(6) On the seventh night, the MD spoke to Reg, and He did say, "Reg, upon this site you have become chief designer, and upon this site you shall be also in charge of marketing. Verily, you must ensure traffic is forthcoming from search engines. And none of your small local directory nonsense; I want Google too."

(7) In awe of the MD, Reg dropped to his knees, and did cry.

(8) And did cry some more.

(9) On the ninth day, a monitor in the forest of cables on the Mount of Webdesign became flamed and from the flames, a voice spoketh unto Reg, and the voice said,

(10) "Reg, you are indeed the marketer for this site, and upon this site thou shalt build thy market"

(11) "Market?" said Reg, "You're 'avin' a larf - what do I know about mark'tin'? I don't even know what search engines look for? Or what might stop 'em? How am I to market this'un then?"

(12) The voice replied, "Reg, blessed are those who have faith, and yet must wait to see results. Build the site and they will come, but build it thus:

(13) Thou shalt have plenty of descriptive body text, and make sure you include your keywords in it too.

(14) Thou shalt not covet they competitor's brand, nor include it in thine keywords, else thou might end up in court.

(15) Thou shalt include plenty of text links, to encourage spiders verily to navigate thy site.

(16) Thou shalt not use query strings, in so much as they might be avoidable, for links.

(17) Thou shalt not name thy image files "xy_123" when "keyword" is a perfectly acceptable name.

(18) Thou shalt use carefully chosen Meta Tags to attract spiders to thy site.

(19) Thou shalt not choose keywords that do not reflect content of thy site. Especially naughty words like "wife-swapping" or "stripper"

(20) Thou shalt not use framesets if at all possible, but if thou should, thou should also ensure that "noframes" tags are used with links to thy content

(21) Thou shalt not use cloaking, nor IP Delivery, nor User Agent delivery nor other tech tricks that verily are spam.

(22) Thou shalt encourage other sites to link to thine own, and thou shalt also link back to theirs.

(23) Follow these commandments, Reg, and the web is thine righteous path to acquisitions; follow them not, and thou shalt be condemned to the unholy depths of high CPC."
