Just a week after a search for "hell" no longer returned microsoft.com, Google is at it again.
Don't ask me who discovered this, and what they were doing (possibly the same person that discovered that you can get milk from a cow!), but a search for "dumb motherf******" on google (miss out the stars though, and use an adolescent imagination to fill in the gaps) brought back a site about our beloved American cousins' elected leader.
In fact the site is a pro-Bush site, selling merchandise (anyone for tonyblair-teatowels.com) and there appears to be no mention of either offending word anywhere in the site code.
Google have denied any hidden agenda by anarchist insiders, but after the Microsoft embarassment of last week, it appears that somebody in the know is, in a manner of speaking, "'avin' a larf!"
In reality, it is likely that Mr Bush has fallen vitim to a little known craze called Google-bombing, whereby disgruntled (or bored) people link to sites using unfavourable terms and hence the page-rank of that site rises for those terms.
The technique was discovered by a programmer who (for a joke) used several hundred messageboards to link to a friends site under the term "useless hack".
Obviously, the technique still appears to work.
What next, I wonder "death metal" for garethgates.com?
