The United States is leading the way in the growth of mobile web usage in the world, according to recent research.Mobile web provider Bango has revealed its "rapid rise", with statistics showing a threefold increase in the past 12 months.
The booming popularity of convenient mobile search capabilities has taken the US into second place behind the UK in terms of its usage.
Last month, Bango's data showed that the UK made up 27 per cent of mobile web users worldwide, while the US jumped to 21 per cent.
The other three nations making up the top five were South Africa, India and Indonesia, representing 11, nine and three per cent respectively of the global market.
Figures from India show a four per cent rise in the last year and Bango predicts that without an established phone line network throughout the country, India is expected to exceed European levels in the coming years.
Ashish Kaistha, sales manager for BlackBerry India, told the Calcutta Telegraph: "Ease of use and ease of access is prompting more and more users to browse the web through their mobile phones."
Anil Malhotra, senior vice president of marketing at Bango, said: "We see that wherever flat-rate mobile data charges are pervasive in a country then there's much more web browsing.
"This is certainly true of the US and South Africa and the imminent introduction of flat-rate data charges in the UK will push up mobile web usage in the UK even further."
