Yahoo! are aiming to expand their move into mobile web services in the form of a partnership with Microsoft and its Windows Mobile software, through which they could potentially reach millions more users.
Also announcing a partnership with HTC, the world's leading maker of Windows Mobile devices, Yahoo! Go for mobile web services will appear on all recent and new models that HTC produce, including recently released devices such as the HTC Advantage ultra mobile PC.
Activating the innovative Yahoo Go! Service on Windows Mobile software enables its use on 75 Windows Mobile devices from the world's largest manufacturers. It's predicted that the coming months will see even more partnerships between Yahoo! and additional Windows Mobile device manufacturers.
This latest announcement follows on from a recent partnership with Nokia and a similar agreement between Yahoo! and Motorola.
Yahoo! Go for Mobile was released to the public just a few months ago and the response has been very positive according to Marco Boerries, the senior vice president of Connected Life. Mr Boerries commented:
"Consumers have been clamouring for us to bring Yahoo! Go 2.0 to Windows Mobile devices since we launched the service less than two months ago."
The latest version, Yahoo! Go 2.0 in its windows mobile software version, adds Yahoo! optimised features such as its oneSearch™ tool and localized search tools alongside more familiar offerings to mobile users, such as the latest news updates, RSS feeds, Yahoo! maps and Flickr integration.
HTC, who already manufacture a range of Windows Mobile devices for the likes of T-Mobile and Orange, are hoping to extend their leadership in the mobile device industry with the pre-installation of Yahoo! web services on their latest range of innovative mobile devices.
Yahoo! has updated its dedicated mobile site to 'Gamma' status, now offering the opportunity to download specific content tailored for certain Windows Mobile PDA phones and Smartphone devices. At this stage, whilst the majority of the HTC mobile device product range is supported, in the future a complete offering will encompass devices from a wide range of manufacturers including Samsung, Nokia and Motorola.
