Yahoo! launches largest online lyric archive

Yahoo! launches largest online lyric archive American internet giant Yahoo! is set to launch a new feature on its popular music website that will allow users to access lyrics for thousands of songs.

The site will feature over 400,000 song lyrics by 9,000 different artists, as part of a licensing agreement reached by Yahoo!, where profits from advertising will be shared with the copyright holders.

Gracenote, a California-based media management company, put together the agreement with over a hundred music publishers including majors such as BMG Music Publishing, EMI Music Publishing, Warner/Chappell Music and the Universal Music Publishing Group.

The internet has long been a popular destination for those looking for song lyrics, but Yahoo! still believes its new feature will be a hit.

Unlike most sites, which only have transcripts written down by users and then posted on a website, the new Yahoo! service will offer the official lyrics legally, without any inaccuracies.

Many of these existing sites also feature intrusive pop-ads and spyware which are not safe for web users.

Yahoo!'s music website, which grew out of the magazine Launch, has become the most popular of its kind in America, and Yahoo! music hopes that delivering this much-needed service will consolidate it as the place of choice on the net for music fans.
