Yahoo! adds videos to Flickr

Yahoo! adds videos to Flickr Yahoo! has added videos to its image hosting and community platform Flickr, a site which was originally intended just for photo sharing.

As a result of the development, users of Flickr can now upload personal video clips and share them with other people.

According to a statement made by the search engine provider, the enhancement has been made as a means of advancing its goal to become the "leading starting point on the web" by offering a more "engaging and relevant service".

Currently, the videos are limited to 90 seconds and 150 megabytes and will be shown as thumbnails alongside users' photos.

The videos will inherit all the features of photos, meaning users will be able to add comments, geotags, privacy restrictions and captions to them

"Video on Flickr is an extension of what Flickr is already doing with more than two billion photos worldwide - providing a place where people capture and share life's daily moments," stated Kakul Srivastava, general manager of Flickr at Yahoo!.

She added: "Digital media has led to a new behaviour emerging in the market and people are much more likely to shoot short video clips, essentially 'long photos', with their digital still cameras and mobile phones."

Ms Srivastava went on to say that there is a "great resonance" between this type of content and the content already being shared on Flickr.

Developed originally by Canadian firm Ludicor, Flickr was acquired by Yahoo! in March 2005.
