13 November 2007Yahoo! extends its mobile scope in Asia and Latin America

After striking a deal in October with Telefonica SA, a Madrid-based telecommunications company with affiliated networks around the world,
Yahoo! has now announced a multitude of deals with mobile operators in Asia and increased the availability of its mobile phone web services in major Latin American markets.
Asia is the fastest growing regional market for mobile services, while China is the world's biggest mobile market.
A Chinese language version of Yahoo! Go 2.0 - which provides mobile users with a suite of widgets, including instant access to services such as Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! News and Flickr - is now available for download in Taiwan. Mobile phone users can download the software directly from their mobile phone browser.
Further partnerships involve three Indian mobile phone networks, two Malaysian carriers and two networks in Indonesia, while there are also agreements with mobile operators in Hong Kong and Singapore. These Asian partnerships will allow users to take advantage of oneSearch, Yahoo!'s successful mobile search service which launched in the US earlier this year.
OneSearch has been designed to serve the particular needs of mobile users by hugely speeding up search features on mobile phones. Search results are displayed on the first screen, thus removing the need to navigate through several links to find relevant information. Quick links to local news, weather and financial information are also provided.
At the same time, Yahoo! is opening up some major Latin American markets. Argentinean, Brazilian and Mexican mobile phone users can now also download Yahoo!'s oneSearch mobile internet software. Yahoo!'s mobile search features include localised content in Spanish and Portuguese.
Yahoo! now has deals with 20 mobile operators worldwide. Considering improved user experience and more affordable offers by mobile phone operators, these developments might see the mobile web experiencing unprecedented usage.
Taking a more panoramic view of the mobile web market, the major players are currently bursting with new ideas. And while iPhones are selling like hot cakes and
Google is experimenting with its open source mobile platform Android, Yahoo! looks ready to conquer the mobile world on its own by increasing its global reach of oneSearch.
