The managing director of search engine giant Yahoo! India George Zacharias has resigned to pursue entrepreneurial interests.According to a company release, Mr Zacharias, who joined the company in 2006, will be replaced by Keith Nilsson, the vice president of International Emerging Markets.
Mr Zacharias was quoted as saying: "Yahoo! India has been growing at a robust pace and the journey has been both challenging and rewarding.
"This decision [to resign] has been a tough one but I leave a well-oiled, strong leadership team and move on to set up a young organisation."
He went on to thank the company for all its help during his employment and added that it will continue to be successful as India's "leading internet company".
Mr Zacharias will continue to work over the next four to six weeks to facilitate a smooth transition to the new management.
Mr Nilsson, who is currently based in Singapore, wished Mr Zacharias good luck in the future and added that the company is very excited about the fast pace of growth currently being experienced by Yahoo! India.
Prior to joining the search engine provider, Mr Zacharias had a long and formidable history in the industry. He had served as chief operating officer for the technology and internet service provider Sify. He has also been the president of clothing manufacturer Madura garments.
