Yahoo! launches Panama down under

Yahoo! launches Panama down under Global internet giant Yahoo! has launched its revamped search engine advertising system Panama in Australia, reports ITworld.com.

Yahoo! previously set up the service in the US earlier this year and the company's Australian managing director Craig Wax suggested it will "provide a better experience for users" even though it is geared towards advertisers.

"We wanted to deliver the right ads to the right people and to provide clients [with an] easy to use platform. Panama helps us achieve this," said Wax.

Panama is made up of key components, including geotargeting, fast ad activation, ad testing and visible quality index.

The new offering will rank ad results based on the fee paid and the search relevance, with Wax adding that this will "generate more clicks [to advertisers] because we will be showing more relevant ads".

Yahoo! is rolling out Panama to Australia and New Zealand now and hopes it will be in use by August - though the new ranking system won't be active until the end of 2007.

Meanwhile, Yahoo! has announced it is entering into a sponsored search deal with GenieKnows.com, giving its users access to Australian and Canadian Advertiser listings.

Iain Wilson, director search partnership for Yahoo! Search Marketing, added: "GenieKnows provides Canadian advertisers with the perfect vehicle to reach targeted users.

"With this deal we now have the opportunity to reach a niche demographic through the use of GenieKnows' vertical search platform."
