Yahoo! re-launches video site

Yahoo! re-launches video site Despite the uncertainty currently surrounding its future, search engine provider Yahoo! has re-launched its video site.

One of the biggest changes made to Yahoo! Video is the addition of a 16:9 viewer that Yahoo! describes as "far ahead of what most sites are offering".

The site also now contains more content, covering the "whole spectrum" of video found throughout Yahoo!, including TV, films, sports and music. Yahoo! also makes clear in a company blog that it is still committed to showing the best videos from independent video creators.

A further addition to the service sees an increase in file size to 150 megabytes to allow users to "upload longer, higher quality video".

Users can also now create more detailed profiles, with options to choose a nickname, read and write comments, add contacts and show their favourite playlists and videos.

Yahoo! describes the changes to its video site as "much more than a facelift", adding: "It's an all-new site."

Indeed, according to the search engine provider, its new site "makes everything about viewing, uploading, organising and presenting online video better".

As well as adding new features, Yahoo! has also omitted ones that it believes users "won't miss". For example, it is no longer possible to title comments, nor to reply to other people's comments.

Additionally, people can now delete comments they have made, as well as unwanted comments posted on videos they have uploaded.

Launched originally as a video search engine in 2005, Yahoo! Video allows users to upload, tag, share and host clips.
