Yahoo! Search now 'Powered by Bing'

Yahoo! Search now 'Powered by Bing' The landmark search deal between industry heavyweights Yahoo! and Microsoft has begun implementation in the United States, with the companies stating on Tuesday that Bing now powers all English language search results delivered through Yahoo.com.

The 10-year partnership between the two former rivals was approved by regulators in February and will see Microsoft's 'decision engine' Bing powering Yahoo! Search, as well as Microsoft's adCenter platform delivering Yahoo! ads.

Reuters reports that the companies expect the agreement to take up to two years to be fully implemented, and Bing is thus far only responsible for powering English language search results for users in the US and Canada - though Microsoft's Online Services Division vice president, Satya Nadella, said other languages will follow "in the weeks and months to come."

Mr Nadella said the adCenter transition would take longer to be rolled out, stating: "As we have said all along, our primary goal is to provide advertisers with a quality transition experience in 2010, while being mindful of the holiday season."

However, Yahoo! CEO Carol Bartz expects her company to be using adCenter by October.

"It's very important that our advertisers are ready, that AdCenter is ready, and we're not going to pull the trigger until we're sure of it," Ms Bartz said during Yahoo!'s second quarter earnings call.

"We feel good, but because the holiday season is so important to advertisers, we won't launch unless we have a smooth transition."
