Yahoo! SSP vs. Google Base

Yahoo! SSP vs. Google Base

Google and Yahoo! have been going head-to-head in the search market for years now. Initially Yahoo! was king of the castle, but two years or so after Google launched, the Mountain View contenders stole Yahoo!'s throne.

At bigmouthmedia we've always watched search battles with keen interest and now we propose that Google Base and Yahoo! SSP get the gloves out, engage in some brutal fisticuffs and show us which is better for the digital advertiser:

Google Base or Yahoo! SSP

If you have been living in a cubby hole for the past 3 years, or you are new to the digital marketing world, you may not know what Google Base (formally Froogle) or Yahoo! SSP are;

So where is the fight?

Well, the brawl is that both search engines allow websites to gain inclusion within the organic results without achieving the position 'organically'.

Take Yahoo! SSP for example, you get a cost per click (CPC) for when you receive a click via their organic results. This allows you to achieve without the organic factor.

On the other hand, in Google Base you can submit your products to the engine for free and then - via Universal Search - they can get pulled into the organic results without having to achieve organically.

This is where the fight is at! So what are the weigh-in stats for each contender?

Yahoo! SSP vs. Google Base

There you have it, folks. From the statistics, it looks like Google Base has the edge over Yahoo! SSP. However, this is likely to vary according to the market and under specific conditions. Each product is different in many ways - bringing us to a key part of digital marketing: knowing your options and how to best use them to your benefit. In some circumstances, bigmouthmedia would recommend Google Base, but in others Yahoo! SSP may be more suitable.

This is what makes digital marketing so exciting - there are no rules and no set ways to market a website successfully - which is why we love a good clean fight!
