Yahoo! targets rival Google in ad campaign

Yahoo! targets rival Google in ad campaign Yahoo! has launched a radio advertising campaign designed to convince listeners to use its search function as opposed to that of rival search engine provider Google.

In the ad, Yahoo! notes that its service presents users with the option of drop-down menus with related suggestions as they type in their search words.

The company states: "You won't find that on your Google page."

Running in the San Francisco Bay Area, as well a number of other markets, the ad also alleges: "Search engines like Google get you lost in all the links, but not Yahoo! search."

Commenting on the campaign, Raj Gossain, vice president of marketing for Yahoo! search, said: "We're not trying to be nasty to [Google]. I have a tremendous amount of respect for what [it has] done," Investor's Business Daily reports.

Mr Gossain added that Yahoo!'s challenge as the "number two player" in the market is to let users know that there are opportunities to make choices concerning internet search.

He went on to say that "many people" are unaware that Yahoo! even offers web search, stating: "It's just a habit that people have of always going to the site of our friends up in Mountain View."

According to the executive, the radio ad campaign is not a response to the unsolicited takeover bid made recently by Microsoft, CNET News.com reports.
