This week, Dash Navigation™ Inc announced a partnership with Yahoo!, through which the internet-connected automotive navigation company will now provide Yahoo! Local Search facilities to its users.
There are already various GPS (Global Positioning System) navigators on the market that incorporate business directories. However, the Dash Express Navigator will be the first to use Yahoo! Local Search.
The new system will wirelessly connect to the internet and search Yahoo! Local Search when a user types in a query. The results will then be returned in the form of address cards for simple viewing. The user can choose the correct location from the list of addresses and the Dash Express system's navigation function will automatically give directions. When the user tries to search for a shop or a supplier of a particular service, the result will be generated locally, depending on where the driver and his or her car are at the time the search is made.
Furthermore, the search results will return reviews and ratings from other consumers about the shop or the service provider found. This will help the user determine the value of returned results and is a feature that reflects the rising integration of real people's opinions in the online world - as with Yahoo!'s successful Yahoo! Answers service.
"When you use Yahoo! Local search in your car, you will be amazed by the freedom that it delivers," said Dash Navigation Chief Executive Officer, Paul Lego. "For the first time, drivers will be able to leave their homes knowing that they can easily find whatever they need - right from their car. It's that simple."
