27 December 2007Yahoo! teams up with America Movil
Yahoo! has announced it has teamed up with America Movil, one of Latin America's biggest wireless carriers.
Under the deal, Yahoo!'s oneSearch will serve as the default search provider on America Movil mobile phones and the
search engine provider plans to create customised versions of the service for each of the 16 countries in which America Movil operates.
The partnership is the largest of the 21 search deals announced by Yahoo! over the course of 2007.
According to a company statement, oneSearch - which provides users with access to news, weather conditions, web images and mobile websites, among other things - removes the need for consumers to "navigate through a sea of PC web links" in order to find relevant search results.
Commenting on the deal, Bruce Stewart, vice president and general manager of Connected Life Americas,
Yahoo!, stated: "Our partnerships with leading global operators like America Movil are essential to expanding Yahoo!'s mobile reach and demonstrates our commitment to working with partners to enhance consumers' mobile internet experience."
By partnering with key operators to set out services tailored for customers and providing "compelling mobile experiences", Yahoo! can expand the use of mobile internet, create new revenue streams and extend its position in mobile services, he added.
Now available in 19 countries around the globe, oneSearch is a dedicated search
portal and entertainment site designed especially for use on mobile phones.
