Yahoo! is set to launch a new online programme for technology investors offering blog posts and streaming video segments. The show, called TechTicker, will be rolled out in January and will report exclusively on technology stocks.
According to TechCrunch, it is intended for those who wish "to be immersed in finance news all day long".
Its hosts will include editor of Silicon Alley Insider Henry Bloget, Business Week columnist Sarah Lacy and CNBC analyst Paul Kedrosky.
This further move into specialised content is an attempt by the search engine provider to set it apart from rival Google, the New York Times reports.
Commenting on the new service, spokesman for Yahoo! Brian Nelson stated: "Yahoo! Finance already maintains the internet's largest finance audience. When we think of developing new products, we're focused on serving that audience."
However, according to Mike McGuire, a media analysts with research and advisory firm Gartner, it will be difficult for TechTicker to distinguish itself.
He said: "If they can get an audience aggregated around the site, it can provide an off-ramp to other Yahoo! properties.
"But we have a ton of stuff that's available on TV and any number of blogs and websites that provide close to real-time accounts, so this will be a real challenge for Yahoo!."
TechTicker is not the first attempt by the search engine to launch a live finance video show.
In March 2000, Yahoo! rolled out FinanceVision, which was closed down in 2002 due to poor results.
