09 May 2007Yahoo! Travel given a facelift
Yahoo! has launched a revamped version of their
Yahoo! Travel website for users in the US. The site's new features include a search history with links to recently visited places and attractions, as well as integration with Yahoo! Answers and user reviews.

The site also features a recommendation system which takes into account variables such as what you have been viewing on the site, features which users who have similar interests as yourself have viewed and the overall ratings of the attractions included. Users can also specify words such as 'romantic' or 'family-orientated' for describing attractions they would like to view.
Additionally, the site includes user-created 'Travel Guides' which can be viewed to give browsers an idea of not only what to expect in a city but also to find recommendations that may be off the beaten track. Integration with Yahoo! Maps is also prominent and attractions are displayed on city maps in order to give the viewer an idea of their location. Flickr photo albums are now also linked in to the site and allow users to view the attraction or place that they are researching through the lens of a normal camera and not a PR-sanctioned one.
The site is being touted by Yahoo! Travel as not only a place to go for holiday ideas, but also a new way to plan your trips away and book them. Yahoo! have gone to great pains to display flight and accommodation information on city and attraction pages and the amalgamation of their flight finder system 'FareChase' with the Yahoo! Travel site seems to confirm that they want to develop into a "one-stop-shop" for travel bookings.
Yahoo! have also released a plug-in for their instant messaging program Yahoo! Messenger, which will allow users to collaborate together to plan holidays in real-time. Yahoo! Messenger Flight Planner is available now and allows two users to search for, find, choose and book flights together whilst in different locations.
