04 December 2007Yahoo! undergoes more reorganisation
Yahoo! has implemented further reorganisation as part of its ongoing bid to transform itself into a more open platform for publishers and developers.
Jeff Weiner, the man in charge of Yahoo!'s network division, has revealed that he has made alterations to his group in order to achieve this goal, the New York Times reports.
Concerning the aims of the
search engine provider, he stated: "Becoming a starting point for the most consumers on the web has become the mission statement of the network division."
Previously, Yahoo! had defined this "starting point" as the sites that help people to better manage their lives and connect them to what they value most.
As part of his reshuffle, Mr Weiner has appointed Scott Moore to head the firm's media group. The division will now concentrate on news, finance and sport - three areas in which Mr Moore has experience.
He has also been given additional responsibilities over entertainment, as well as Yahoo!'s auto and real estate sites.
In assuming control over entertainment, which includes games, music and video, Mr Moore will take over from former CNET executive Vince Broady.
Among other things, Mr Broady had been responsible for the programme Brand Universe, which created mini websites for a number of entertainment brands, such as Nintendo Wii and Harry Potter.
Brand Universe, however, no longer fits in with the network division's objectives, Mr Weiner stated. He added that "Vince is exploring other opportunities within the company".
