Yahoo! has announced the release of onePlace, a service it describes as a "revolutionary mobile content management solution".Set to launch in the second financial quarter of this year, the tool is designed to enable consumers to manage the selection of internet content available on mobile devices in a more effective manner.
Yahoo! onePlace is intended as a means of centralising and managing consumers' content, making it accessible from a single location.
It will also allow users to link to any favourite content they have already personalised on the Yahoo! network.
Other features include a collections tool - which could be used to amass information concerning a favourite band, for example - and a 'pulse' feature, which streams updates relevant to users' content.
"With the introduction of Yahoo! onePlace, we are announcing the next essential component to our mobile product line-up," stated Marco Boerries, executive vice president of Connected Life at Yahoo!.
He added: "Yahoo! onePlace is where users will be able to find what matters to them the most, no matter where their interests, passions and information come from. Yahoo! onePlace will provide mobile users with a rich and dynamic content experience."
Mr Boerries also said that the new offering is part of Yahoo!'s ongoing strategy to become the initial point of access for internet users.
Earlier this year, Jerry Yang, Yahoo!'s co-founder and chief executive officer, reiterated the company's goal of becoming the "internet's indispensable starting point" during the Consumer Electronics Show in the US.
