Yahoo! Revamp Set to Rival Google

Yahoo! has launched a revamped search engine in a bid to stake out search market leadership.

With 42 million searches a day, Yahoo! is dwarfed by Google, which handles 112 million searches a day. Yahoo! claim their newly rebuilt search property, which combines Google-like features with Yahoo!'s customised services covering news, sports, weather and directions, will provide more useful information than Google's and be easier to use.

Most of Yahoo!'s results are currently generated by Google. However, since Yahoo acquired search engine specialist Inktomi in December 2002, industry experts have expected the relationship to change, with Yahoo! incorporating Inktomi's tools into its search engine by the end of the year.
