Young men most closely attached to the net

A new survey has told us something we may have suspected already - that the internet is the favourite technology of young men. The research also revealed that nearly all young men use the net every day.

According to the Guardian, a report from Sparkler - conducted for Microsoft Advertising - found that 57 per cent of men aged between 18 and 44 are most attached to the internet, with 49 per cent ranking mobile phones as their most loved bit of kit. It also found that 99 per cent of young males go online every day, or nearly every day. Funnily enough, half of them use their beloved mobile phones to do it.

80 per cent of the young men questioned said they'd be lost without access to the internet and, more disturbingly, 25 per cent said they check their email and 18 per cent visit social networking sites from their mobiles before even getting up in the morning. Meanwhile, 38 per cent claimed to have surfed the net while in bed with their partner.

While email still seems to hold top spot as the best loved form of online communication, with 94 per cent of young men using it at least once a day, social networking is increasing its hold, with 60 per cent paying a look daily. However, the same can't be said for the TV.

The study revealed that video on-demand is grabbing the attention of the respondents, with 73 per cent saying they watched on-demand shows at least once a week.
