YouTube adds Insight feature

YouTube adds Insight feature Google-owned video-sharing site YouTube has added a new feature which allows users to discover more information concerning the videos they upload, it has been revealed.

Called Insight, the new addition to the site means that anyone with a YouTube account, including partners and advertisers, as well as users, can see how often their clips are viewed in different geographical locations.

It also provides them with data concerning how popular videos are relative to other clips in the same markets over a given period of time.

In addition, the tool makes it possible for individuals to get an impression of the lifecycle of their videos, including how long it takes them to become popular and what happens to the clip views as their popularity peaks.

In a company blog, Tracy Chan, product manager at YouTube, states: "Insight gives the creators an inside look into the viewing trends of their videos on YouTube and helps them to increase views and become more popular."

She adds that partners can use the metrics to increase ad revenue and "better serve and understand their audiences", while advertisers can use them to tailor their marketing and reach the right viewers.

Ms Chan goes on to say: "As a result, Insight turns YouTube into one of the world's largest focus groups."

Created in February 2005, YouTube was acquired by Google in November 2006 in a stock-for-stock transaction worth $1.65 billion.
