Video sharing site YouTube and auction site eBay will be among those honoured at the 11th Webby awards, celebrating achievement in the online world.YouTube's co-founders, Steve Chen and Chad Hurley, will receive the People of the Year award for creating the massively popular site that allows users to share and post videos on the internet.
Last year, Google acquired the site in a high profile $1.65 billion deal.
Additionally, the best actor and actress categories will go to two YouTube stars: Ninja from "Ask a Ninja" and Jessica Lee Rose from "lonelygirl15" both made their mark posting video blogs on the site.
The "eBay community" of more than 200 million buyers and sellers will receive a Lifetime Achievement award honouring the phenomenon that the site has created.
The award will be picked up by eBay CEO Meg Whitman.
A further Webby Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to David Bowie for his long (in internet terms) presence in the online space.
Bowie launched his own innovative website BowieNet in 1998. Since then, he has also added UltraStar, a digital media company creating online content for artists, and BowieArt, a site bringing young artists to the attention of collectors, to his online properties.
The Webby awards ceremony will take place in New York on June 4th and 5th.
Apart from the People's Voice Award voted by online users, the rest of the awards were picked by a panel of 550 members of the Academy of Arts and Sciences, which include powerful media figures.
Previous winners have been internet stalwarts such as MySpace, Flickr, Craigslist and internet co-inventor Robert Kahn.
